Premiering in 1941 at the Stalag VIIIA prisoner-of-war camp in Görlitz, Germany, where Olivier Messiaen had been held since his capture in 1940, this deeply moving work was composed using the instruments and musicians at hand in the camp. It will be performed by Yuri Mitsuhashi, violin; Matthew Griffith, clarinet; Lucas Button, cello; Ryan MacEvoy McCullough, piano.
