On #GivingTuesday a Donation to Beattie-Powers is a Gift to Our Community

Dear Friends,

As the year comes to a close, we like to acknowledge what we've accomplished and look to what we can achieve in the year ahead.

In the past year we've held over 20 events at Beattie-Powers Place, including concerts from Dawn Upshaw's students at the Bard College Conservatory, the Planet Arts Jazz one2one series (including Grammy winner Gary Smulyan), and offered lectures as varied as John Thorn's "Hot Stove League" and Ted Hilscher's popular "Lost Catskill." We've also hosted organizing meetings for our nonprofit friends and cohorts.

Thanks to a generous gift from Board Member Richard Philp, we replaced our rotting entrance posts with beautiful brick columns that mirror those supporting the porch, we've continued our electrical repairs (though we still have far to go), repainted sections of the house, enhanced the soil in our garden and graveled the drive around the house.

All in all an impressive output for an entirely volunteer-run organization!

To be sure, none of this would be possible without your support. This year, your help is needed more than ever as we seek to address some significant maintenance work on the house.

Here's a list of areas that need your funding:

  • Music Programs (sponsored support of the Bard series)
  • Educational Programs (our lecture series)
  • House Restoration (we're looking to replace floor boards on the west porch, replace the 1930s era electrical and prepare to replace the roof, as well as refresh our interior painting).
  • Gardens (address the area in front of the kitchen entrance and plant for the spring).

Should you opt to fund any of the above areas, we'll make sure you are recognized in signage at the House, in our Annual Report and online.

If you're interested in making a larger contribution, please consider becoming a Friends of Beattie-Powers Angel! (Our levels are listed here)

And today's the perfect day to give because November 28 is #GivingTuesday - the one day donors all over the world unite in giving to support their favorite non-profit organizations.

So, please make your checks payable to Friends of Beattie-Powers and mail to:

Thank you for contributing to the cultural vitality of our community! As a friend, you're among the best!

We'll be celebrating your commitment at our annual Holiday Party on December 9th. Please join us at 3 for a toast to the new year!

All the best,
